SZA appears to be preparing for a major 2027, with the singer seemingly confirming reports that she could headline Coachella while also revealing that work on her next album is continuing.
The speculation picked up after SZA shared a screenshot of a report naming her as one of the possible headliners for Coachella 2027. The report also listed Dua Lipa and Tame Impala among the artists expected to lead the festival lineup.
SZA posted the screenshot through an alternate Instagram account and added a caption revealing that she was heading to Tahiti to continue working on her album. She also admitted that she was still thinking through several major decisions and joked about agreeing to big opportunities even when she does not feel completely prepared.
Her post immediately fueled speculation that she was referring not only to her upcoming album but also to the reported Coachella booking.
However, Coachella has not officially announced its 2027 lineup, meaning SZA's headlining appearance should still be considered unconfirmed until Goldenvoice or the festival makes a formal announcement.
If the reports are accurate, SZA would headline the festival for the first time. She previously performed at Coachella in 2018, where Kendrick Lamar joined her during her set. She later returned to the festival in 2026 as a surprise guest during Justin Bieber's performance of "Snooze."
The reported headlining slot would also come during a major new creative period for SZA.
Her most recent full-length studio album, SOS, arrived in 2022 and became one of the biggest R&B projects of the decade. Since then, fans have been waiting for another complete studio album, and her latest comments now confirm that she is actively working on one.
SZA has not revealed the album's title, release date or tracklist, and her comment about traveling to Tahiti suggests that the project is still being developed rather than being completely finished.
She has nevertheless remained active musically throughout 2026.
SZA recently appeared on Justice's "Flower In A Hurricane", a song created for Grand Theft Auto VI that also features Tame Impala and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. She also collaborated with Steve Lacy on "is it cool?" and appeared on Isaiah Rashad's "Boy In Red."
Earlier this year, SZA also revealed that she and Steve Lacy have enough unreleased music together to potentially create a smaller collaborative project. That has fueled speculation that more material involving the two artists could surface during her next album era.
A Coachella headline performance could provide SZA with a major stage to introduce that new chapter.
The festival is scheduled to return to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, for two weekends: April 9-11 and April 16-18, 2027.
Recent reports have named SZA, Dua Lipa and Tame Impala as the likely headline trio. Earlier rumors had also connected Drake to the festival, but his name no longer appears among the latest reported headliners.
For SZA, a headline slot would add another major live milestone following several years of increasingly large performances.
She shared the 2025 Super Bowl halftime stage with Kendrick Lamar and later joined him on the Grand National Tour, further establishing herself as one of contemporary R&B's biggest touring acts.
Her latest Instagram comments also offered a rare look at the pressure that can come with those opportunities. By admitting that she sometimes says yes before feeling fully prepared, SZA suggested she is still working through the scale of the decisions surrounding her next era.
What is much clearer is that new music is officially in progress.
SZA has confirmed that she is continuing work on her next album, while her decision to publicly share the Coachella report has only strengthened speculation that she could be preparing to headline the festival next spring.
Until the official lineup is released, the Coachella booking remains unofficial. But with a new album taking shape and one of music's biggest festivals potentially waiting for her in April, 2027 could become another major year for SZA.
