JAY-Z is officially taking the Super Bowl halftime stage.
After weeks of speculation, the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation confirmed that the Brooklyn rap legend will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The announcement was made during ESPN’s Monday Night Football matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys on October 26. A promotional video showed JAY-Z sitting inside an empty SoFi Stadium while his classic “Public Service Announcement” played in the background, officially ending the rumors surrounding the 2027 performer.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, JAY-Z reflected on the journey from releasing his debut album Reasonable Doubt in 1996 to eventually performing on one of the biggest stages in entertainment. He described the upcoming appearance as another dream-come-true moment during a year celebrating three decades of his career.
The performance will mark the first time JAY-Z has appeared as a Super Bowl halftime performer, despite playing a major role behind the scenes for years. His company, Roc Nation, has worked with the NFL since 2019 to advise on music and entertainment strategy while helping produce the halftime show.
Since the partnership began, Roc Nation has helped oversee halftime performances featuring artists including Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, The Weeknd, Rihanna, Usher, Kendrick Lamar and Bad Bunny. JAY-Z has largely remained in an executive role throughout that period, helping shape the event rather than stepping onto the stage himself.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had encouraged JAY-Z to perform for years and was waiting for the rapper to feel that the timing was right. When Roc Nation originally entered its partnership with the NFL, JAY-Z reportedly made clear that his involvement was not simply about securing himself a halftime performance.
That makes the 2027 announcement especially significant. After spending years helping select and produce other artists’ performances, JAY-Z will now become the centerpiece of the show himself.
The announcement arrives during one of JAY-Z’s most active live-performance periods in years. Throughout 2026, he has been celebrating the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint through his JAŸ-Z30 concert series.
The anniversary run included three major shows at Yankee Stadium in New York before continuing internationally and eventually reaching SoFi Stadium for performances on October 23 and 24. Those Los Angeles concerts took place at the same venue where JAY-Z will return just months later for Super Bowl LXI.
His recent SoFi Stadium shows included appearances from artists such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, John Legend, DJ Khaled, Too Short and Blue Ivy Carter, giving fans an early glimpse at the long list of collaborators who could potentially appear alongside him during the halftime show.
However, no special guests have officially been announced for the Super Bowl performance.
Naturally, speculation has already started surrounding who JAY-Z could bring out. His catalog includes collaborations with Beyoncé, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Pharrell, Nas, Eminem, Dr. Dre and several other major artists, giving him numerous possibilities if he decides to include guests. Any names being discussed at this stage remain speculation.
The February 14 date has also generated interest because Super Bowl LXI falls on Valentine’s Day, leading some fans to wonder whether Beyoncé could make an appearance. Beyoncé previously headlined the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show and later returned as a guest during Super Bowl 50.
The upcoming performance will also give JAY-Z an opportunity to showcase one of hip-hop’s deepest catalogs. His career includes songs such as “Empire State of Mind,” “99 Problems,” “Hard Knock Life,” “Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” “Run This Town” and “Public Service Announcement.”
JAY-Z enters the performance as a 25-time Grammy Award winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His career has extended far beyond music through Roc Nation and numerous business ventures, but the Super Bowl appearance will put the focus back on his work as a performer.
The show will also continue his evolving relationship with the NFL. Roc Nation’s partnership with the league initially generated significant discussion because it came during debates surrounding player protests and the NFL’s relationship with hip-hop. Since then, JAY-Z and Roc Nation have become central figures in the league’s entertainment strategy.
Now, after years of operating behind the curtain, JAY-Z is finally stepping onto the stage he helped reshape.
Super Bowl LXI takes place Sunday, February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The game and halftime performance will air on ESPN and ABC, with additional streaming availability through Disney+ and NFL+.
For JAY-Z, the performance represents another major milestone in a career that has already stretched across three decades. What started with Reasonable Doubt in 1996 will now lead to one of the largest live audiences of his career when he takes center stage at the 2027 Super Bowl.
