Some of Latin music’s biggest stars are sending love, prayers, and support to Colombia after a powerful earthquake caused widespread damage across the country.
According to reports, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, August 10. The disaster has left at least 111 people dead, injured dozens more, damaged around 1,600 buildings, and left many people trapped under rubble. The earthquake’s epicenter was near San José del Palmar in the Chocó region, with shaking felt in several Colombian cities, including Cali, Pereira, Quibdó, and Manizales. Tremors were also reportedly felt in neighboring Ecuador and Panama.
Colombia’s Geological Service described the quake as the country’s strongest recorded earthquake of the 21st century. Aftershocks followed the initial impact as rescue crews and civilians continued searching collapsed buildings for survivors.
As the country deals with the tragedy, several Colombian and Latin music stars used their platforms to speak out and encourage unity.
Shakira shared a heartfelt message to her home country, saying her heart was with everyone affected by the earthquake and with families experiencing fear and uncertainty. She also reminded Colombians to come together, support one another, stay alert, and follow official instructions during the emergency.
Karol G also expressed solidarity with victims and families impacted by the disaster. She said moments like this require people to unite, care for each other, and support one another as a country. Karol also revealed that her Con Cora Foundation was working to respond to the emergency and determine the best ways to help affected families.
J Balvin sent strength to the Colombian people and called for action, urging others to help those impacted by the earthquake. Maluma also reacted with emotion, saying the situation in Colombia was painful and sending love to the families of the victims. He added that he was ready to help and would share ways for people to support those most in need.
Feid posted a series of Instagram Story videos reflecting on the pain and fear many Colombians were feeling. He said it was difficult to watch what was happening in places like Chocó, the Coffee Axis, Medellín, and other affected areas. Feid also said he wanted to use his platform to share reliable information and help connect people with foundations, donation efforts, and communities in need.
Ryan Castro shared similar concern, saying he hoped people and their families were safe. He later said he and his team had joined the response, made a donation, and were sharing information for others who wanted to help.
Support also came from artists outside Colombia. Marc Anthony sent prayers and love to the Colombian people, while Marco Antonio Solís expressed solidarity with the country. Manuel Turizo also told fans he would be watching for ways to help and encouraged people to support one another.
The earthquake has become a national tragedy for Colombia, but the response from artists shows how deeply connected the music community remains to the country and its people. As rescue efforts continue, stars are using their voices not only to mourn, but also to spread information, encourage donations, and remind Colombians that they are not facing the crisis alone.
