JAY-Z may finally be stepping onto the Super Bowl halftime stage himself. The Brooklyn rap legend is reportedly set to headline the Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
According to a report from Puck’s Dave Brooks, multiple sources say JAY-Z has selected himself as the performer after several names were considered for the coveted halftime slot. Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber were reportedly among the other artists in consideration before JAY-Z emerged as the choice.
The news has not yet been officially confirmed by the NFL or Roc Nation. Representatives for both organizations had not publicly announced the halftime performer as of October 20, making JAY-Z’s involvement reported rather than finalized publicly.
If confirmed, the performance would mark a major moment in JAY-Z’s relationship with the NFL. His entertainment company, Roc Nation, entered into a partnership with the league in 2019 to help curate and produce the Super Bowl halftime show and advise on the NFL’s broader music strategy. The partnership was renewed in 2024 for another five years.
Since Roc Nation became involved, the halftime stage has featured a wide range of major artists, including The Weeknd, Dr. Dre, Rihanna, Usher, Kendrick Lamar and Bad Bunny. JAY-Z has remained largely behind the scenes during that period, helping shape the performances rather than taking the headline slot himself.
A 2027 performance would therefore represent a major shift, placing JAY-Z at the center of the same show he has helped guide creatively for several years.
The timing would also line up with an especially active period in his career. Throughout 2026, JAY-Z has been celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint, two projects that helped establish him as one of hip-hop’s most influential artists.
Those anniversaries have already led to a major return to live performances. Earlier this year, JAY-Z headlined multiple anniversary concerts, including a three-night run at Yankee Stadium that reportedly generated more than $42 million in gross ticket revenue. He also performed at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia and staged a sold-out concert in Paris.
That renewed touring activity makes the reported Super Bowl appearance feel like a natural continuation of his 2026 comeback to large-scale stages.
JAY-Z is also scheduled to perform at SoFi Stadium on October 23 and 24, the same venue that will host Super Bowl LXI several months later. Some reports have suggested that additional news regarding his halftime appearance could surface around those concerts, although no official announcement date has been confirmed.
If he does headline the Super Bowl, JAY-Z would have more than three decades of hits to choose from. His catalog includes records such as “Empire State of Mind,” “99 Problems,” “Hard Knock Life,” “Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” “Big Pimpin’,” “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” and “Run This Town.”
His long list of collaborators would also create plenty of possibilities for surprise guests, although no guest performers have been announced. Until the NFL and Roc Nation officially confirm the show, any potential appearances remain speculation.
The performance would be especially notable because JAY-Z has never previously served as the main Super Bowl halftime headliner, despite his deep involvement with the production and selection process in recent years.
His connection to the event also stretches back before Roc Nation’s partnership with the league. JAY-Z has previously discussed turning down an opportunity to participate in the halftime show when he was asked to agree to specific conditions involving other performers.
Now, nearly a decade later, the possibility of him taking full control of the stage would represent a very different moment in his relationship with the NFL.
Super Bowl LXI is officially scheduled for Sunday, February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium, bringing the championship game back to the Los Angeles area for the second time in five years.
For now, JAY-Z’s halftime appearance should still be treated as reported rather than officially announced. But if the report is confirmed, one of hip-hop’s most successful artists will finally move from helping choose the Super Bowl headliner to becoming the headliner himself.
