Lauren London is joining the cast of the upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic, taking on the role of Beverly Tate, the late mother of the Long Beach rap icon. The casting adds another important piece to the film, which is expected to tell the story of Snoop Dogg’s rise from California’s West Coast rap scene to becoming one of the most recognizable figures in music and pop culture.

Beverly Tate played a major role in Snoop Dogg’s life, both personally and creatively. She was a church choir director and ordained evangelist, helping shape the spiritual foundation that would follow Snoop throughout his career. Her influence was not only felt in his upbringing, but also in the way he has spoken about faith, family, and purpose over the years.

Tate is also the person credited with giving Calvin Broadus Jr. the nickname that would eventually become known around the world. As a child, Snoop was reportedly called “Snoopy” by his mother because of his love for the Peanuts cartoon character. That childhood nickname later evolved into Snoop Dogg, one of the most famous names in hip-hop history.

The role gives Lauren London a meaningful part in a story rooted in family, music, and West Coast culture. London has her own long history with Snoop Dogg, dating back to the early stages of her entertainment career. She appeared in Snoop’s 2002 music video “From tha Chuuuch to da Palace” and later appeared in the 2004 video for “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” one of his biggest records.

London’s casting also brings emotional weight because she is closely connected to Los Angeles culture. Over the years, she has become known for roles in ATL, The Game, Without Remorse, You People, and Games People Play. Her connection to hip-hop culture, film, and the city of Los Angeles makes her a strong fit for a project centered on Snoop’s life and legacy.

The upcoming film, titled Snoop, will star Jonathan Daviss as Snoop Dogg. The cast also includes Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre and Camron Jones as 2Pac, placing several major figures from Snoop’s early career and Death Row Records era into the story. Those relationships were central to Snoop’s rise, especially during the 1990s when West Coast hip-hop became a dominant force in music.

Craig Brewer is directing the film after rewriting the original screenplay by Joe Robert Cole. Brewer is known for telling music-centered stories with strong character focus, which could help the film explore both Snoop’s public success and the personal experiences that shaped him behind the scenes.

Snoop Dogg is also involved as a producer, alongside Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker and Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer. The movie will include music from Snoop’s catalog, giving the project direct access to the songs that helped define his career and the era he came from.

The film is also significant because it marks the first movie produced under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment. That gives the project added importance beyond a normal biopic, as it represents a new chapter for Snoop’s business moves in film and television.

Snoop has continued to honor his mother since her passing in 2021. He dedicated his 2025 gospel album Altar Call to her memory, showing how deeply her influence still lives in his work and personal life. Because of that, Beverly Tate’s role in the biopic is expected to be more than just a family detail — it will likely help explain the values, love, and guidance that helped shape Snoop before fame.

The biopic is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2027. With Lauren London now joining the cast, excitement around the project continues to grow as fans wait to see how Snoop Dogg’s story will be brought to the big screen.
