Jhené Aiko has reached a major new milestone in her career. Her latest album, Westside Whimsy, has officially debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, giving the Los Angeles singer her first chart-topping album nearly 13 years after she first appeared on the ranking.
The album earned 74,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the tracking week ending September 17. The achievement also makes Westside Whimsy the first R&B album by a woman to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2026.

Streaming played the biggest role in the album’s strong opening week. Of its 74,000 total units, approximately 70,000 came from streaming-equivalent album units, representing roughly 71.33 million official on-demand streams. Traditional album sales contributed another 3,500 units, while track-equivalent activity added about 500 units.
The streaming numbers also helped Westside Whimsy debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Streaming Albums chart, giving Aiko another major accomplishment connected to the project.
The No. 1 debut represents a new career high for Aiko, who has consistently placed albums near the top of the Billboard 200 throughout her career. Her 2013 project Sail Out peaked at No. 8, while 2014’s Souled Out reached No. 3. Her 2017 album Trip peaked at No. 5, and Chilombo reached No. 2 in 2020. Westside Whimsy now becomes her sixth Top 10 project and her first to take the top position.
The accomplishment is especially notable because Westside Whimsy had an extremely short promotional rollout. Aiko officially announced the album only days before its September 11 release, despite explaining that the project had been approximately six years in the making.
The 20-track album marks Aiko’s first full-length studio release since Chilombo. The project includes collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Tyga, Larry June and OHMA, bringing together several artists connected to different parts of Aiko’s musical journey.
One of the album’s biggest collaborations is “So Good” featuring Kendrick Lamar, reuniting the two artists more than a decade after previous collaborations such as “Growing Apart (To Get Closer)” and “Stay Ready (What a Life).”
Other collaborations include Ab-Soul on “Love Bomb,” Tyga on “Like, Whatever,” Larry June on “Neighbors,” and OHMA on the album-closing track “Golden Coast.”
Westside Whimsy arrives more than six years after Chilombo, which previously represented Aiko’s highest-charting studio album. Chilombo debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and later earned several Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year.
After spending years building a dedicated audience through her introspective songwriting, smooth R&B sound and emotionally driven projects, Aiko’s first Billboard 200 No. 1 represents another major step in her career.
Following the announcement, Aiko celebrated the accomplishment on social media by thanking her listeners and sharing the achievement with the fans who supported the album.
With more than 71 million opening-week streams and her first No. 1 album, Westside Whimsy has officially given Jhené Aiko the biggest Billboard 200 debut position of her career and another major milestone more than a decade after her first appearance on the chart.
