Chris Brown and Usher received a major recognition during their latest Texas concert when U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett honored the R&B superstars by recognizing their careers in the Congressional Record.

The moment took place on Saturday, September 12, during Brown and Usher’s co-headlining R&B Tour stop at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Crockett joined Brown onstage to celebrate his more than two decades in music and his influence on R&B, while Usher was also included in the congressional recognition.

The Congressional Record entry, reportedly titled “Recognizing the Artistry of Chris Brown and Usher Raymond,” acknowledges both performers for their accomplishments and contributions to music. The recognition highlights the impact Brown and Usher have made throughout their careers as singers, performers and influential figures within modern R&B.

Texas State Representative Venton Jones also participated in the celebration. Jones said Brown received an official State of Texas legislative recognition in addition to the Congressional Record entry submitted by Crockett.

Music producer and songwriter RoccStar, who has worked closely with Brown throughout his career, said he played a role in bringing the recognition together. Following the presentation, he celebrated the moment on social media and thanked Crockett and Jones for helping make it happen.

RoccStar described the recognition as an especially meaningful achievement because of his longtime relationship with Brown. Beyond making music together, he said helping arrange an honor recognizing Brown’s impact was a significant moment for him personally.

The recognition also places additional attention on the careers Brown and Usher have built within R&B. Usher has spent decades as one of the genre’s leading performers, while Brown has remained a major commercial force since beginning his career as a teenager in the mid-2000s.

Their current co-headlining tour has brought the two generations of R&B stardom together on one stadium stage. The pairing has attracted attention because artists of Brown and Usher’s individual stature rarely share an entire large-scale tour as equal co-headliners.

Crockett, who has represented Texas’ 30th Congressional District since 2023, told the Arlington crowd that she wanted the moment documented at the congressional level while celebrating the energy surrounding the performance.

The recognition of Brown has also generated some criticism because of his past legal controversies, particularly his 2009 guilty plea to felony assault involving Rihanna. Some reactions online questioned the decision to publicly honor him, while supporters focused on his longevity, musical achievements and influence on R&B.

Despite the debate surrounding the presentation, the recognition represents another major career moment for Brown and Usher as they continue their stadium tour together. After decades of chart success, performances and influence across R&B and pop music, both artists now have their contributions formally acknowledged in the Congressional Record.
