Kirk Franklin on The Jason Lee Show

Description

Previously recorded, Jason Lee sits down with one of the most iconic and influential voices in gospel music, Kirk Franklin, for their first-ever conversation—and they waste no time getting real. Jason kicks things off by asking about something fans are always talking about: Kirk’s fitness and the discipline it takes to stay strong physically, mentally, and spiritually. Kirk opens up about how his wellness journey took on a new meaning during COVID, revealing that he struggled during that period and had to become more intentional about taking care of himself. Now at 55, staying active isn’t just about looking good—it’s about making sure he can continue moving, performing, and showing up at his best. And when it comes to the critics? Kirk isn’t losing any sleep. He laughs off the haters and explains why he refuses to give energy to negativity or anyone trying to throw shade his way. That leads Jason straight into the hilarious viral green apple memes, where Kirk turned an unexpected internet moment into motivational and spiritual messages. But the conversation goes much deeper than the memes. Kirk reflects on coming from the mud, growing up Baptist, and finding his foundation in the local church before becoming one of gospel music’s biggest names. Jason presses him on the evolution of the church, how faith and religion have changed over the years, and where Kirk stands on the church’s role in today’s culture. From faith and fitness to criticism, the modern church, personal growth, and the lessons he’s learned along the way, Kirk drops plenty of gems throughout this must-watch conversation. And of course, Jason couldn’t let him leave without switching things up with a round of Smash or Pass.
